A SIGNIFICANT SIGNAL FROM THE GULF TO ISRAEL

On December 26, 2022, the Omani parliament supported a bill to expand a 1972 Omani law boycotting Israel.

Israel is disappointed and surprised over the Omani move.

In my opinion, this Omani action should not come as a surprise if you consider the possibility that the Omani move is a significant signal from the Gulf to Israel – and one that was quietly coordinated with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates against the background of the establishment of a right-wing government in Israel headed by Benjamin Netanyahu.

The message to Israel is the following: The road to normalization is still long. Do not take normalization for granted. The trajectory of normalization and the path ahead depends on the policy and actions of the new Israeli government.
