CNN Newsroom features various anchors on weekdays and weekends. Since the start of September 8, 2008, the program has employed a single-presenter format.[2]

The program shares the same name of an earlier CNN/U.S. program, debuted in 1989, that was shown commercial-free by teachers in schools.[3][4][5]

On December 15, 2022, it was confirmed that Ana Cabrera would be leaving CNN at the end of her 1 p.m. ET program on December 22, and would be eyeing a new role at NBC News.[14]

In 2023, CNN began to replace Newsroom on weekdays with the new format CNN News Central, which is designed as a more “energetic” format with a focus on breaking news coverage, visual elements influenced by its coverage of special events, and teams of anchors present throughout the block.[15] The 9 a.m.–Noon edition of News Central premiered on April 3, 2023, which is anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan, and Sara Sidner from New York. A 1–4 p.m. block of News Central hosted by Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez and Jim Sciutto will premiere on April 17, which will be anchored from Washington.[16][17] Alisyn Camerota will move exclusively to CNN Tonight, while Victor Blackwell will move to Saturday mornings (co-hosting CNN This Morning Weekend, and anchoring an hour of Newsroom).[15]

I have long sought a book to explain what I thought was the source of most conflict in the Middle East: the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. I obtained Inside the Middle East Entering A New Era and thought I would find the explanation I was looking for. This book gave me so much more than I expected! Mr. Melamed is not only a skilled writer, but an excellent educator! There are so many layers to the power struggles and conflicts in the Middle East that a casual observer can’t fathom. Mr. Melamed presents an overall picture of a complicated area and then peels back the layers that hide the true motivations of the players in this region. He uses concise historical thumbnails of Middle Eastern countries that give the reader an understanding of how and why they are where they are today without losing the reader in a sea of confusing detail. The title does not disappoint. This book truly does take you inside the Middle East. The array of Arab voices the author cites and highlights bring information to the reader that is not covered in the Western media. Plus, the incredible number of maps really helped me follow the story in a very understandable way. This book offers a distinct and unique perspective on a broad array of Middle East issues - from Iran to Turkey; from Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria to Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia; from the Abraham Accords to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict; from the realignments of interests to the changing balance of power in the region. Avi Melamed is a voice that must be heard in the West! He has written the most comprehensive, understandable, and reader-friendly book on the Middle East that I have ever encountered.
