Former Israeli intelligence officer Avi Melamed warns Hamas is “armed to the teeth” as Israeli forces move into Gaza City to eliminate the terrorist organisation’s leadership.

Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed Israeli troops have surrounded Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in his bunker.

In a televised statement, Mr Gallant said the IDF’s top target was “isolated” and “hiding” without “contact with his associates”.

“Hamas’ major assumption was that Israel would never ever dare to go so deep into his fortress but this is exactly what Israel is doing right now,” Mr Melamed told Sky News Australia.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a press conference on Tuesday where he said the IDF is “deepening pressure on Hamas every hour”.
