Israel-Hamas _ Netanyahu demands hostage release for Gaza ceasefire | Avi Melamed analysis for Carolyn Jarvis and Redmond Shannon | Global News Canada.
In tonight’s top story, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza has reached its six-month mark since the Hamas-led attack that killed 1,200 people in Israel. The health authority in Gaza reports that Israeli bombs and its ground invasions have killed over 33,000 Palestinians in what Israel calls its efforts to wipe out Hamas. Calls for a ceasefire have grown louder, and peace talks have resumed in Egypt. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that the conflict will not stop until all hostages are released, which is a red-line central to the peace talks that are resuming in Cairo. Meanwhile, families of hostages taken by Hamas in Israel fear that time is running out to save their loved ones. Redmond Shannon reports.

Families of the victims of Oct. 7 attack are still mourning the loss of their loved ones, including Judith Weinstein-Haggy and her husband, who were killed during the attack. Their daughter is urging Canada to do more to repatriate their remains. Meanwhile, more than 100 hostages are still being held in Gaza, causing ongoing concern for their safety. Crystal Goomansingh reports on this.
