Former IDF Intelligence Official In Florida Discussing Next Possible Steps In Israel Hamas War | Avi Melamed Interview for WPBF | December 11, 2023
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. —
A former Israeli intelligence officer is currently in Palm Beach County, working to give more people context and a full understanding of the Israel-Hamas war.
Avi Melamed, a former Israeli intelligence official and founder of the organization Inside the Middle East, is currently in South Florida and is traveling throughout the rest of the U.S. His goal is to help educate people about the war and provide what he says is more context for the conflict.
He says it appears the Israel Defense Force could be less than two months away from greatly reducing Hamas’ military capabilities.
“Hamas is operating deliberately and knowingly entrenched within the civilian population in Gaza Strip, taking them as a human shield, so for Israel Defense Forces operating in Gaza Strip, it’s a much more complicated task,” said Melamed. “But just the same, the Israel Defense Forces have been able so far to move on with the war plan and they are basically dismantling Hamas regiment by regiment and battalion by battalion. Basically at the end of the day, from a military perspective, it seems like Israel has the upper hand.
“It will take something like four to six weeks until Israel crushes the major military spine of Hamas … We saw dozens and dozens of Hamas terrorists basically surrendering. They are putting down their guns,” he said.
Melamed says after Hamas’ military is greatly reduced, there will still be a significant amount of more work ahead. He outlines what are likely the next priorities of the Israeli government and its military after Hamas’ possible significant reduction in military power.
“To start rehabilitating the Gaza Strip. Start to renew governmental and municipal services in the Gaza Strip and so on, and in parliament, there’s a need to make sure that Hamas and Islamic Jihad will not be able to regroup themselves in the Gaza Strip … There will be other sub-military missions the Israel Defense Forces will be engaged with to basically make sure they will minimize as much as possible Hamas’ military capacities to regroup itself and to renew the threat on the state of Israel,” he said.
His organization, Inside the Middle East, is all about making sure everyone has access to the facts. Melamed says there is a common misconception he’s hoping to clear up.
“Unfortunately, within some Western circles, Hamas is viewed as freedom fighters or something of that sort,” said Melamed. “This is totally not the case. We are looking at a very radical terror organization designated by Western powers, including the United States, as a terror organization. We just saw on Oct. 7 that Hamas is no different than ISIS.”
He says that’s why a potential defeat of Hamas would not only protect Israelis, but Palestinians and everyone else around the world.
