Little escape for Rafah residents amid plans for offensive | Avi Melamed interviewed by DW – DEUTSCHE WELLE
Iran says that Israel will pay for the assassination of Hamas’s top political leader Ismail Haniyeh. He was killed in an airstrike in Tehran. On Thursday, thousands gathered in the Iranian capital for a funeral honoring Haniyeh. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei spoke at the ceremony. In 2006 he briefly served as Palestinian prime minister, and from 2007 until 2017 was head of the Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip. In 2017, he was elected chairman of Hamas’ political wing and relocated to Qatar. Haniyeh was also the chief negotiator in talks aimed at reaching a cease-fire with Israel.
Iran holds Israel responsible for the killing and has said they will make Israel regret the move.
