Through a combination of filming in the field and authentic voices from the Arab and Muslim world that are often absent in Western discourse, we believe this will be an engaging, enlightening, and entertaining journey!

DOCUMENTARY SERIES | JERUSALEM

The Seam Line is a five-part documentary series examining the fragile threads that, woven together, create Jerusalem’s Christian, Jewish, and Muslim tapestry - simultaneously connecting and dividing Israelis and Palestinians, religious and secular, sacred and profane.

Living together in this multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-identity city is not always a matter of choice, but often the consequence of history and circumstance. However, alongside the inevitable frictions and tensions, unexpected collaborations, friendships, and partnerships can and do develop.

In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, the Arab-Israeli conflict exploded into the intifada - lethal and violent protests and riots throughout Israel. This was the most chaotic and dangerous period in the history of the modern city of Jerusalem. Avi Melamed, a fourth-generation Jerusalemite Jew, former intelligence official, fluent Arab speaker and Middle East expert, is the host of The Seam Line. As the Advisor on Arab Affairs to two Mayors of Jerusalem during the intifada, his mission was to rebuild relations between the Arab and Jewish communities in Jerusalem. His work put him in the epicenter of this deadly storm.

The Seam Line is not a historical documentary. Rather, it is an invitation to join Avi on a personal journey through the city, from north to south, east to west. It is an unparalleled opportunity to explore the conflict in and over Jerusalem from his unique perspective. Geopolitical Middle East Expert, Intelligence Analyst, Author, Educator, & Founder of Inside The Middle East

Former Israeli Intelligence Official and Senior Arab Affairs Advisor. Founder of ITME, an apolitical, non-partisan educational non-profit institute. Author of three books on the region. His recent book is, “Inside The Middle East | Entering a New Era,” published in 2022.  Avi is the author, producer, and host of  “The Seam Line,” a five-part docuseries exploring the many layers of the conflict in and over Jerusalem. He is currently working on “Inside The Middle East | The Primer”, a one-hour educational video designed to provide a Western audience with a comprehensive understanding of the underlying factors that have shaped, shape, and will shape the region, through authentic voices from the Arab and Muslim world that are often absent in Western discourse. The film is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2024. Avi is Fluent in Hebrew, Arabic, and English, which allows him to bridge cultural gaps and provide a comprehensive understanding of the region. He is a frequent commentator on international media platforms such as Al-Arabiya, Al-Hura, BBC, CBC, CNN, EFE, France24, I24New, Sky News, and many more. His insights are regularly featured in ABC, AP, Bloomberg, the Financial Times, FOX, the Hill, NBC, Newsweek, Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, to name a few. And is a permanent contributor to USA Today. Avi’s Arabic, English, and Hebrew analysis can be found on the ITME HUB, an ITME initiative providing a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the region.

I have long sought a book to explain what I thought was the source of most conflict in the Middle East: the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. I obtained Inside the Middle East Entering A New Era and thought I would find the explanation I was looking for. This book gave me so much more than I expected! Mr. Melamed is not only a skilled writer, but an excellent educator! There are so many layers to the power struggles and conflicts in the Middle East that a casual observer can’t fathom. Mr. Melamed presents an overall picture of a complicated area and then peels back the layers that hide the true motivations of the players in this region. He uses concise historical thumbnails of Middle Eastern countries that give the reader an understanding of how and why they are where they are today without losing the reader in a sea of confusing detail. The index in the back of the book with an alphabetical listing of key individuals, organizations and concepts is incredibly helpful as a reference point as one is reading the book. I give Mr. Melamed great credit for his intimate understanding of the Middle East and his ability to convey his knowledge in an understandable form to his readers.

The title does not disappoint. This book truly does take you inside the Middle East. Plus, the incredible number of maps really helped me follow the story in a very understandable way. This book offers a distinct and unique perspective on a broad array of Middle East issues - from Iran to Turkey; from Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria to Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia; from the Abraham Accords to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict; from the realignments of interests to the changing balance of power in the region. Each chapter in itself and the entire book as a whole is gripping and eye-opening. It is clearly written by someone who has a rare understanding of the region. Avi Melamed is a voice that must be heard in the West! He has written the most comprehensive, understandable, and reader-friendly book on the Middle East that I have ever encountered. A MUST read for anyone who wants to really understand the region!
