The Massacre in Syria Continues

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

“Throughout the month of February 2018, the Assad – Russia – Iran axis in Syria has intensified its attacks indiscriminately bombing the area with mortar shells, artillery, rockets and missiles.”

The Massacre in Syria Continues | Intelligence Bulletin

February 25, 2018

Ghouta al-Sharkia (Ghouta East) is a massive urban area on the eastern outskirts of Damascus. It is controlled by Jaysh al Islam “Islam’s Army” one of the major Syrian rebel groups. The estimated current population is 350,000.

According resources evaluated as reliable, 522 civilians have been killed between February a and 22, 2018.

Arab media platforms stream horrifying footage and video documenting the annihilation of babies, toddlers, children, women and men in Ghouta. Killed by the Assad – Russia -Iran axis.

On February 24, 2018 the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2401 calling for a 30-day ceasefire in Syria.

Addressing the UNSC, Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar Jaafari said “Ghouta’s destiny will be like Aleppo’s”.

That statement does not reflect the concern of the Assad government for the well-being of the civilians in Ghouta. It reflects Assad’s plan to destroy Ghouta.

The Syrian Ambassador added that the Assad regime and its allies (i.e. Iran and Russia) are “fighting terror groups sponsored by foreign governments on behalf of the world.

In my September 2017 article “My Enemy is My Best Asset”  I described how the mantra of “fighting terror” has become a valuable tool cynically used in the service of the Assad – Russia – Iran axis. The Syrian Ambassador’s speech clearly illustrates that point.

Despite the UNSC resolution, it is reported that the massacre of Syrian civilians in Ghouta as of now continues.
